On January 11, 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed a political change to congress. This proposal is also known as the Second Bill of Rights. President Roosevelt made valid points. “People who’re hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made” (Roosevelt). This happened in Germany before Hitler took power. The people of Germany were hungry and dealing with hyperinflation, and its one the way that enabled Hitler to come into power. Roosevelt’s ideas would be very beneficial and should be made happen today.

Roosevelt wanted everyone in the United States to have security rights. One example in Roosevelt’s Second Bill of Rights was “right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing” (Roosevelt). In 2017, there is a minimum wage of $10/hour. This is not enough to live on if someone has a family. With a family there are expenses like mortgage or rent payments, electric and gas bills, water and trash bills, phone bills, fuel, insurance, taxes, food, clothing etc. and making about twenty thousand dollars a year, before taxes, will not cover these expenses.

Roosevelt’s ideas should be applied to current day. His ideas would be very beneficial to the country. Ideas like, “The right to a good education” (Roosevelt). Without a good education, there would be a great number of people who can’t read or do basic math. If his ideas were applied today, the country would be better educated, the people would be financially stable, there would be a lower cost of living, better employment opportunities, reduced cost of living, less inflation, and economic growth.
